Project Overview
The Kadıköy-Kartal Metro Project (M4 Line) is a major urban transit infrastructure initiative on the Asian side of Istanbul, Turkey, designed to relieve congestion on the D-100 (E-5) corridor and significantly improve mass transit connectivity from Kadıköy to Kartal station.
Originally awarded to the Anadoluray joint venture (formed by Yapı Merkezi, Doğuş İnşaat, and Yenigün İnşaat) in 2005, construction began in February 2005 and focused on the Kadıköy-Kozyatağı section—including deep TBM tunnels and station caverns.
Despite complex urban geology, constrained rights-of-way, and evolving design requirements, the project progressed as a foundational component of Istanbul's metro network, supporting multimodal connectivity and enhancing mobility in one of Europe's largest megacity environments.
